Meet Alliance Search Solutions Employee Spotlight: Corey Callahan

Q: What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
A: I’ve never had an olive in my entire life and will never try one

Q: What’s unique about the culture at your company?
A: I can truly say I work with my friends. It sounds cliche, but it’s true for Alliance Search Solutions. That makes the difficult times that much easier and the good times that much more fun.

Q: What is your favorite food? Why did you pick this as your favorite?
A: Shrimp Scampi. My mom would make it most Sunday’s growing up

Q: What have you gained from working where you’re at?
A: When I started recruiting coming up 9 years ago, I was your classic know-it-all college kid. I had a strong drive that led me to stick in this industry where, at best, 10% of your possibilities workout in a given year. What I learned to do was listen. It’s really a critical part of being a good recruiter.

Q: What are two of your favorite hobbies?
A: Golfing and watching Cleveland sports

Q: What is your favorite thing about your job?
A: Full-desk permanent placement recruiting is a lot like running your own business. While Alliance Search Solutions pays for the resources and is on the LLC, my customers buy from me and I control my own outcomes. That level of responsibility is exciting.

Q: If you could choose any animal to be, what would it be and why?
A: A dog, carefree living

Q: What do you find most rewarding about your job?
A: There’s nothing better than making a placement. A positive outcome for all parties, it’s what makes the 90% of bad outcomes worthwhile.

Q: What advice would you give to someone looking for a job right now?
A: Keep an open mind. Getting a job isn’t ABC=ABC. If it was that simple my job wouldn’t exist. It’s about making a connection to a job, to a company to a culture. Just because you’ve been focused on a certain industry doesn’t mean your skills couldn’t translate to other industries, etc.

Q: What made you want to work where you’re at now?
Admittingly, I didn’t know much about recruiting before joining Alliance. I was hired here out of college. I knew I wanted to get into value-added sales but didn’t want to be the guy selling my entire family insurance. This was a good match.

Q: Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your younger self?
A: Don’t sweat the small things

Q: Do you have any pets? What are their names and what are they like?
A: Yes, we have a 7-year-old Shih Tzu, that won’t let me leave without giving her a chicken jerky in the morning or go to bed without playing ball.

Q: Before working at your current job, what was the most interesting job you had?
A: Selling TVs and home theater at the now-defunct Circuit City

Q: If you won the lottery and had a million dollars, what would you do with it?
A: Honestly, not really that much. I’m not the spender type unless it’s on golf clubs! But probably a month-long vacation and then invest the rest.

Q: What was your favorite vacation?
A: San Diego-Perfect weather and it’s laid back.

Q: What do you look forward to most when you walk into work?
A: Exceeding my clients’ expectations and helping a candidate find the job they’re looking for

Q: If you could have dinner with any person from any time period, who would it be and why?
A: George Steinbrenner to ask him why he traded Jay Buhner? He had a rocket for an arm.
